Phi Theta Kappa Membership

Introduction

"The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence."

Becoming a Member

Phi Theta Kappa membership has many benefits and some responsibilities. It will help a student to become more active within the community or it may help to put an already-burdened student through school, taking the burden off funding by offering scholarships. Although no participation is required, it is always encouraged and welcomed. We have added an Enhanced Member Program at our chapter to reward those who do volunteer. Applicants must meet or exceed the following criteria to be eligible for membership into The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society:

  • Be a student of OCC
  • Attend one of the campuses
  • Have completed at least 12 credit hours
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above

If you meet all of the requirements mentioned above and would like to become a member of The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, you can pick up an application and apply today. This application must be turned in, along with your Phi Theta Kappa, membership fee of $75, in the form of a check or money order, made out to: Oakland Community College.
The one time Phi Theta Kappa membership fee of $75 covers all of the necessary membership fees at the international, regional and chapter level of the honor society. Please turn in your application to the Phi Theta Kappa office, located on the second floor of the Student Center building, across the hall from the P.A.S.S. office, or you may pay your membership dues with a credit card at the Business Office, located in Woodland Hall.
