Welcome to Professor Abbey's web site. Please take a few minutes to look around and explore the site. See you all in class. Winter 2010 Office Hours Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:00am -9:00am, Thursday 1-3pm and by appointment.
Attendance: Since class is conducted as a workshop it is imperative that you attend. There will be a sign in sheet at the start of class; it is your responsibility to sign in. If you are more than fifteen minutes late to class you will receive an absence. Three absences will result in a failing grade if not discussed with me before they occur. Late Papers: Late papers will not be accepted for any reason and will result in a failing mark for that assignment! If you miss a class you are responsible for inquiring as to what assignments were missed and completing them on time. Plagiarism: Use of another’s words, specific language or ideas without acknowledgement of the source from which those words, language or ideas comes is plagiarism. This will result in an ‘F’ for the course if you plagiarize. Cell Phones and Pagers: Absolutely no cell phones or pagers are to be on in class. If repeat occurrences happen the student will lose points towards their overall grade. Grading Scale:
Grade Policy: The only grades given in this course are listed above. I do not give W's. It is your responsibility to withdraw from this course if you decide it is necessary. If you simply stop attending class, you will be given an "F" for all remaining activities that are not completed, and your grade will be calculated on the same scale as the rest of the class. An incomplete mark (I) is given rarely and only in cases of extenuating circumstances. The determining factors are documentation submitted by the student in support of extreme circumstances AND a passing average at the time of the circumstance. Generally, in determining whether or not your circumstance is extreme, I will employ a two-pronged test: (1) Was the event beyond the scope of your control? (2) Was the event beyond the scope of your foreseeability? Numerous absences or failing grades are not valid reasons for an Incomplete. If you expect to get an Incomplete, plan on signing a form which details what you will need to do to satisfy that Incomplete. I will assign an Incomplete only if you complete that form. If you're certified by a physician unable--because of sickness or injury--to come in to sign the form, I'll mail it to you. You can sign it and mail it back to me.
ADA Notification: Students requiring special assistance (including those affected by the Americans with Disabilities Act) should contact the ACCESS office at (248) 233-2783, which will inform the instructor of any special conditions pertaining to their learning.
