Discussion Template

This is an example of a typical template page. If you use a discussion template that never changes, you can use the generic object id syntax

< object:discussionboard:popup:To the Discussion Boards>

This will look like this to the students:

When students click on the link, they will go to the general discussion board area where they will see a listing of all discussions and they will have to choose the one that they need to enter.

The advantage to this template is that it always takes the user to the same place.

If you wish to create new directions each time you assign a discussion, you can create a single template and copy it several times, perhaps into different course storage folders. This would create new object IDs for each copy so that you can customize them as you use them.

For this type of template, you would use specific object ID tags such as

< object:433:popup:To this week's Discussion>

This would look like this to the student:

Not much different than the example above. But this time it will lead the student to the specific discussion group with the ID number of 433 and this page can be modified to give specific directions for the discussion-- i.e. readings or research to complete before joining the discussion activity.
