India: A Primer for Business Professionals

It is no longer just a land of “caste, curry, and cows.” It is a country that gives you a “billion reasons to care”! Whether your goal is to understand a fellow employee in your company or a competitor across the world, this seminar will introduce you to the complexities and contradictions that is India.

Topics include:

• Overview of Indian community in the United States
• Overview of India’s languages, religions, cultures, and ethnicities
• Business climate, practices, and etiquette

This course will give you a fascinating peek into a part of the world that is increasingly affecting American lives. You will learn tips to help you better understand the Indian business climate and how it can benefit your organization.

About the Instructor:
Suba Subbarao is in her fifteenth year at Oakland Community College as a full-time professor of English. She teaches classes in professional communication, and has conducted workshops on related topics at local corporations. Her annual visits to India, she says, help her to keep a foot in both worlds and bring first-hand experience and enthusiasm to the classroom.
