A variety of employment opportunities exists for dental hygienists:
treating patients in general dental or specialty offices, public health
settings, hospital and long term care facilities, armed forces, consumer
advocates, dental hygiene teaching and research. There are also excellent
programs that offer baccalaureate and graduate degrees in dental hygiene.
Job market projections are excellent, but as in any occupation, opportunities
can be influenced by economic fluctuations. Current dental hygiene graduates
working full-time can anticipate initial annual income of $45,000 -
50,000 depending on the area, responsibilities, type of practice and
general economic climate.
