Oakland Community College

Mental Health/Social Work

The Oakland Community College Mental Health/Social Work program prepares individuals for a wide range of rewarding careers including psychology, social work, human resources, criminology, gerontology among others. The program is ideal for people who enjoy helping others on an individual or group basis.

The Mental Health/Social Work program features supervised internship experiences as well as courses in individual, group and family counseling skills. Students have the option of choosing a specialty field or explore various directions toward a career. Those already working in the field may receive credit for their job, while many of the internships are paid.

Completing the program leads towards an Associates Degree in Applied Science and many area universities offer advanced standing to our graduates.

Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply for and obtain a Social Service Technician certificate from the state of Michigan.

"I transferred with confidence to the University of Michigan - Flint for my Bachelor's in Social Work. Like pieces of a puzzle, much of what I'd learned from the program fit perfectly in place to offer a "framed in border" for future learning. Today I can say with great pride who I am as a professional is due to OCC's Mental Health / Social Work program."
