Oakland Community College

Interior Design

The OCC Interior Design program offers you the opportunity to advance your creative talents to transform an ordinary space into an environment where people desire to live, work and play. With the eye of an artist and the mind of a scientist, you can personally create beautiful functional residential and commercial settings which enhance the quality of life.

The OCC Interior Design program focuses on all aspects of residential environments, including:

  • lighting
  • furnishings fabrics
  • floor and wall coverings
  • space planning

Many courses include field trips to better understand the industry and resources. All students complete an internship with opportunities through local associations and businesses, including the Michigan Design Center. After applying skills and refining your personal techniques and style in the field, you will leave this program with a feeling of accomplishment and a portfolio of your work, ready to find your design career.

Invest in Yourself

At OCC tuition is ¼ the cost of private schools and universities. You can complete the Associate Degree without going into debt, and graduate with work experience. The program also offers support for graduates looking for employment or starting their own business.

The program and design studio is based at the Orchard Ridge Campus in Farmington Hills. Introductory classes are also available in Auburn Hills.

"I am so pleased that I decided to attend OCC Interior Design program and graduate with an associate’s degree. Michelle and her team are great educators! It was a great stepping stone from being away from school for an extended period of time and prepared me for my attendance at Wayne State and work towards my bachelors degree. Without my OCC experience, that transition would have been difficult." - Mary, Clarkston, MI, OCC Interior Design graduate
