Reserve Officer Training

The purpose of the 120-hour Reserve Officer Training course is to acquaint trainees with skills and knowledge needed to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Police Reserve Officer. Trainees for this program are only admitted to the class as a sponsored student based upon the recommendation of the Chief or Director of a police agency. Trainees are subject to the rules and regulations of the Oakland Police Academy during the training sessions.  The next Reserve Officer training session will be from September 7 - December 6, 2016

Reserve Officer Academy

  • Vehicle Stops
  • Mechanics of Arrest
  • Patrol Techniques
  • Police Communications
  • Note Taking and Report Writing
  • OWI Enforcement
  • First Aid Techniques
  • Traffic Direction & Control
  • Firearms Training
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs

Trainees must provide appropriate sidearm and leather gear.

Interested candidates will only be admitted after a written recommendation has been received from a Chief, Director or Sheriff of a law enforcement agency, and will be subject to the rules and regulations of the Oakland Police Academy.
