Mandatory New Student Orientation online 

All students new to Oakland Community College -including transfer, dual enrolled and high school guest students- are required to successfully complete the orientation online prior to registering for classes.  


DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN ORIENTATION ONLINE?

All students new to Oakland Community College are required to participate in orientation online, including transfer, high school guest and dual-enrolled students.


Why is there a mandatory student orientation?

Research shows that students who complete orientation are more likely to do the following:

  • Take advantage of resources available to them
  • Complete their courses with higher grades
  • Achieve their academic goals.

OCC wants you to begin your college experience confident and informed.  


What do I need to participate in Orientation Online?

You must know your OCC student ID number (provided in your acceptance email) and have your OCC email account created prior to participating.  Your OCC student ID number is required to log in to orientation. 


Who is exempt from participating in the Orientation Online?

  • Guest students from other colleges
  • F-1 students (for first semester only)
  • Students who have previously attended  OCC

How do I complete the Orientation?

You can complete the orientation online using your

  • Computer
  • Tablet
  • Cell Phone

Where is the link to Orientation Online?

You must log in to My OCC - click on the "Student" tab and look for the “Online Orientation” link under the section labeled “Academic Profile"


Is there a fee for Orientation?

There is no fee to participate in orientation online.


Do I have to come to campus to participate in Orientation?

Orientation is only offered online and can be completed at your convenience 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 


What if I am unable to complete the entire Orientation in one session?

No, the system will save any part that you have completed, so you do not have to complete it in one session. However, you must complete the Orientation before registering for classes.  The orientation will take about 30–45 minutes in total and you can review any parts of the orientation as needed during your time at OCC. 


Is there a face-to-face Orientation in which I can participate?

Not at this time. 


Can I complete the Orientation if I am not required?

Anyone who is admitted as a student to OCC can complete orientation.  


Who do I contact if I am having technical difficulties?

There is a “Support” icon located at the bottom of the menu button of the orientation, which offers you the option to call or email for technical support.


How long do I have to wait to continue to the next steps after I complete Orientation?

Once you have clicked on “Mark Course Complete,” at the end of the Orientation you can move forward to your Next Steps.    *Neglecting to "Mark Course Complete" will delay you from moving forward to Next Steps.  


I have completed the Orientation, Why can't i register?

Make sure you have clicked the Mark Course Completed button at the end of the orientation, which takes you to the student dashboard to print your certificate.

There may be other reasons you are unable to register, such as;

  • English placement into ENG 1055 or ENG 1060
  • Requirement to meet with a counselor
  • Course prerequisites
  • Documentation requirements
  • No program of study selected
