Dress for Success

Appearance

  • Research the organization’s standard on attire.
  • Appear well-groomed and up-to-date in style: clean, neat, and flattering.
  • Avoid tight or overly loose-fitting clothing.
  • Wear solid colors and simple patterns.
  • Avoid shirts with lettering or graphics.
  • Your outfit must be wrinkle free.
  • Remember deodorant.
  • Ensure your breath is pleasant.
  • Steer clear of strong smelling perfumes and colognes.
  • Keep attire smoke-free.
  • Avoid flashy jewelry/accessories.
  • Piercings should be kept to a minimum; facial piercings should be removed prior to the interview.

Clothing

  • Prior to your interview, research the company’s dress code.
  • Cleanliness and appropriate dress are imperative.
  • Wear solid colors and simple patterns.
  • Do not wear tight or overly loose-fitting clothing.
  • Do not wear shirts with lettering or graphics.
  • Wear a tasteful shirt and conservative tie or a flattering and unrevealing blouse.
  • Dress pants should be neutral or dark and worn with a belt.
  • Skirts should be no shorter than the tips of your middle fingers or no shorter than just above your knee.
  • Avoid gym shoes! Shoes should be comfortable, clean, and dirt free.
  • Heels (3.5 inches or shorter) and flats are appropriate!
  • Consider comfortability for walking long distances, climbing stairs and all types of terrain (hello,  office tour!)
