Non-Institutional Scholarships are sponsored by a variety of organizations, and a limited number of applications are sent along with the scholarship posting. Students must follow the instructions and meet application deadlines noted in the scholarship profiles.

OCC does not assist in the development of the scholarship criteria nor participate in the screening and/or selection of the scholarship recipient(s) except as prescribed by the scholarship sponsors. OCC also does not approve/disapprove/endorse the scholarship organizations and provides the scholarship information as a public service.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship

The Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is a highly selective program for the nation’s top community college students with financial need who aim to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year institutions.  Cooke Scholars work with a Cooke educational adviser who helps them navigate their transition to a new campus and connect them to mentors and other resources.  

Programming support includes:

  • Personal Advising about selecting a college and understanding financial aid.
  • Up to $55,000.00 per year for two to three years to complete a bachelor’s degree.
  • Guidance with seeking internships, including stipends offered for unpaid opportunities.
  • Networking with the Thriving community of Cooke Scholars and Alumni.
  • The opportunity to apply for a graduate school scholarship awarding up to $150,000.00

Michigan Schools & Government Credit Union Scholarships

MSGCU – We believe in the power of education and we’re proud to offer more than $100,000 in scholarships annually.

 Educational Solutions Scholarship -  Designed for high school seniors who have proven that they have what it takes to succeed in college. Eighteen $2,500 awards are offered.

 Rudolph Heino High School Scholarship - Designed for high school seniors headed to college who have demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to serving others. Five $2,500 awards are offered.

Larry Swantek Educational Studies Scholarship - Designed for college students studying education or high school seniors with plans to study education in college. Four $2,500 awards are offered. 

Milo Perreault Educator Advantage Scholarship - Designed for teachers and school administrators to help cover the costs of continuing education. Four $2,500 awards are offered. 

William Cayen Skilled Trades Scholarship - Designed for students enrolled in a skilled trades certificate program in Macomb, Oakland, or Wayne County and pursuing a career such as machinist, mechanic, welder, electrician, plumber or other industrial and advanced technology trades. Four $2,500 awards are offered.

Cpt. James Ahn Special Forces Memorial Scholarship

Named in honor of Captain James Ahn who died in a tragic parachuting accident while with his unit in Washington State in 2015. Visit the Cpt. James Ahn Special Forces Memorial Scholarship site. This annual scholarship provides sponsoring for a student who served in the U.S. Army Special Forces and is now a full-time student. The award is for $1000.


Vietnam War Veteran Descendants Scholarships

Students have until March to apply for a scholarship that is available to descendants of Vietnam War veterans.

Detroit Chapter #9 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, through a $250,000 endowment managed by the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, established the scholarship program last year.

The scholarship is for post-secondary students between the ages of 16 and 30 who are the natural or adopted direct lineal descendant of a qualifying Vietnam veteran. Priority will be given to descendants of Vietnam veterans who were or are members of the VVAA#9 in good standing for five years.

Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship

Public Law 111-32, the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship, amends the Post-9/11 GI Bill® (chapter 33) to include the children of service members who die in the line of duty after September 10, 2001. The benefit is effective August 1, 2009; the same day the Post-9/11 GI Bill® takes effect.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill

Eligible children attending school may receive:

  • Full tuition and fees paid directly to the school for all public school in-state students. For those attending private or foreign schools, benefits are capped at a statutory minimum amount per academic year.
  • Must submit around 1,000 word essay on any subject related to digital marketing or search engine optimization.
  • A stipend for books and supplies.

Who is eligible? Children of active duty members of the Armed Forces who have died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001 are eligible for this benefit. A child may be married or over the age of 23 and still be eligible.

Eligible children:

  • Are entitled to 36 months of benefits at the 100% level
  • May use the benefit until his or her 33rd birthday
  • Are not eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program

Rules for eligible children serving, or who have served, in the Armed Forces:

  • If the child is eligible under the Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty, Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve, and/or the Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP), he or she must relinquish eligibility under one of those programs to receive benefits under Post-9/11 GI Bill®.
  • A child's character of discharge from his or her own service does not impact eligibility resulting from the line of duty death of a parent.
  • A child on active duty will receive benefits at the active duty benefit rate.
  • A child may qualify for up to 36 months of benefits under the Fry Scholarship Program, and possibly another 36 months of benefits of the Post 9/11 GI Bill® based on their own service. An individual may also receive additional entitlement if another parent transfers entitlement to the individual.

Children who have used or wish to use entitlement under Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA):

  • If a child is eligible for the Fry Scholarship, he or she may be eligible for VA's Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA). Although the benefits cannot be used at the same time, a child may be eligible for up to 48 months of benefits between the two programs.

The H&P Veterans helping Veterans Scholarships

Hill & Ponton is pleased to be supporting veterans as they further their education and enter a career field that would, in turn, help other veterans. Each year, four scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to the strongest candidates. To apply, visit Hill & Ponton Veteran's Scholarships.

University of Michigan Community College Transfer Scholarships

Award amount: varies

The University of Michigan Community College Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving Michigan community college transfer students entering the University of Michigan.

Eligibility: Students must have significant experience attending a Michigan community college up to and including an associate degree.

To be considered for a University of Michigan Community College Transfer Scholarship, a student must:

  • Be accepted for admission and enrolled full-time at the University of Michigan. Apply for financial aid. Follow these steps to apply:
    • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal processor. The FAFSA is available on the web beginning Jan. 1. Be sure to list Federal Code 002325 so that a copy will be sent to U-M.
    • Complete and submit the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE application. The profile is available beginning Oct. 1. Be sure to list CSS Code 1839 so that a record will be sent to U-M.

Drug Lawsuit Source College Scholarship

American Muscle's Student Scholarship

Award Amount: Two scholarships of $2,500 each

Eligibility:

  • Pursuing automotive themed major
  • High school seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education
  • Those students who have exceptional drive and ambition should submit a 700-1500 word essay - telling who you are and how you plan on using your automotive education to incite positive change and innovation within the custom car industry.

American Trucks Student Scholarships Program

Award Amount: Two scholarships of $2,500 each

Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited United States technical institute, 2/4 year college/university with program in construction management, secondary votech school or tuition bearing apprenticeship program in the traditional trades (e.g. carpentry, HVACC, electrical or related fields of study). Students pursuing certificate programs or apprenticeship programs are welcome to apply. or
  • Currently attending high school and will be attending an accredited school in the next academic year to one of the aforementioned programs.

SMEE Education Foundation Student Scholarships

As the philanthropic arm of SME, an internationally recognized nonprofit organization serving the manufacturing industry, the SME Education Foundation inspires, prepares and supports the next generation of manufacturing and engineering talent.

The SME Education Foundation supports students by annually awarding millions of dollars in scholarships to graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students pursuing two-year, four-year or advanced degrees in manufacturing or engineering degree programs.

Minimum Qualifying Criteria

Must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States or Canada

Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Must be on a path toward an associate’s, bachelor’s or graduate degree in manufacturing engineering technology, or a closely related field at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.

The Textbook Nova Scholarship

We are excited to announce our company’s annual $1000 scholarship, which is available to all current and incoming college students of any major who answers one of the essay questions from the list of subjects on our website.

To enter, applicants are to complete an entry form which will ask students to provide their name, email address, college or university along with institution’s mailing address, proof of enrollment status, intended major, and a phone number to be reached at if they are selected to win the scholarship.  The deadline for submissions is September 1st, 2022.  The winner will be notified individually and announced on or around September 10th 2022.
