Notes:

When Sessions overlap the VA will calculate your rate of pursuit. You can confirm your enrollment status by visiting your eBenefits account.

Post 9/11 Chapter 33 Students

The Department of Veterans Affairs calculates the rate of pursuit by dividing the number of credit (or credit hour equivalents) being pursued by the number of credit considered to be full-time by the school.  The resulting percentage is the student's rate of pursuit. RATE OF PURSUIT MUST BE OVER 50% for the students to be entitled to any of their housing benefit.

Examples: if full-time is 6 credits for 8 weeks, the rate of pursuit for

  • 3 credits is 50% (3÷6=50%) Student is not entitled to any housing benefits.
  • 4 credits is 66% (4 ÷6=70%) Student is entitled to partial housing benefits.

Examples: if full-time is 12 credits for 15 weeks, the rate of pursuit for

  • 6 credits is 50% (6÷12=50%) Student is not entitled to any housing benefits.
  • 7 credits is 58% (7÷12=60%) Student is entitled to partial housing benefits.
