Internships & Cooperative Education

The Internship and Cooperative Education Program at Oakland Community College is an academic program where classroom study is combined with career related work experience. These real world opportunities are offered through partnerships with business, industry and government organizations. Students who participate need to meet the eligibility requirements determined by faculty within their chosen discipline of study. Internship & Co-op students earn credit and learn to apply classroom skills while establishing professional contacts with employers on the job.

This fact sheet provides general information to help determine whether interns and students working for “for-profit” employers are entitled to minimum wages and overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).1
