Get Ahead This Summer

The Oakland Community College (OCC) Jumpstart Program is a one-course, five-week program designed to help you transition to college. The program is free if you meet all the following criteria:

  • Live in Oakland County
  • Earned a high school diploma/GED by the program start date
  • Have not previously attended college classes

After successful completion of the program, you will get to take home a new Chromebook and a $700 scholarship. The scholarship covers the cost of 6 credits at OCC, enrolling in a math or english course for Fall 2024 is required.

Attendees who fully participate in the five-week program will receive:

  • A free Chromebook
  • $700 scholarship for Fall 2024 semester at OCC
  • Free course materials
  • Lunch provided daily
  • Financial Aid and Admissions assistance, campus tours, career counseling

When:  July 8-August 8 | Classes run Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Where: OCC Auburn Hills Campus

Select the best course option for you:

Once admitted into the program, you will select one of the four courses listed below. Space is limited to 30 students in each course on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • American Government 1510 (3 credits)
    Discover the inner workings of the US government. Dive into decision-making, the citizen-government relationship, and the power you hold.

  • Basic Blueprint 1030 (3 credits)
    Learn how to interpret and read blueprints, make key calculations, understand basic terms, and even sketch 2D and 3D object views.

  • Financial Literacy 1410 (3 credits)
    Learn short and long-term saving and budgeting principles. How to manage debt, credit, major purchases, retirement planning, and investing fundamentals.

  • Listen to Music: Rock to Hip-Hop 1590 (3 credits)
    Explore rock music roots in jazz, classical, and pop. Learn all the social and economic forces that shaped it while using recordings, presentations, and readings to uncover the story of rock.
