OCC AT ARTS, BEATS & EATS: A Blockbuster Partnership

As a first-time major sponsor, 165 OCC students and employees showcased visual, performing and technical arts, including live performances, food carving, vocal, jazz and theatrical performances, painting, ceramics, photography, graphic arts and interior design exhibits and demonstrations.

OCC was seemingly everywhere. For example, OCC student Film Club members earned real-world experience taking photos throughout the festival and OCC athletic teams, including volleyball, basketball, cross county and softball, invited prospective students to OCC’s Oct. 6 admissions open house.

More than 550 new followers signed up on OCC’s social media channels, including Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Michelle Pergeau, who heads up OCC’s interior design program, spoke on WDIV-Channel 4’s “Live in the D” program on Aug. 31. Peter Schade, an instructor in the OCC graphic arts program, appeared with two students to talk about graphic arts and ceramics on FOX 2 News on Sept. 2.

“What was great about this event was seeing such wide-spread support across all disciplines,” said OCC Chancellor Peter Provenzano, who was on site for most of the festival. “Together, we demonstrated excellence in what we do, focused on student success. Every one really chipped in to work together and share their expertise for the benefit of our community.”

Relive the excitement. Check out the OCC Facebook page and the OCC Flicker Arts, Beats & Eats photo album.

OCC plans to continue its sponsorship with Ford Arts, Beats & Eats in 2019. Save the dates: Aug. 30 - Sept. 2.
