Employment Prospects and Talent Merge on OCC Campus

OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan – Oakland Community College’s career services department hosted more than 60 employers on its Royal Oak campus, “Connecting Talent to Opportunity.” The spring job fair held, April 20, connected students, alumni and community job seekers with employers seeking to fill positions in business, industry, health care and government.

The event also provided an opportunity for companies to learn more about OCC’s off-campus work-study program, which matches qualified organizations and eligible students at little cost to employers. Under the program, employers receive reimbursement for wages paid, while students gain valuable professional experience and apply classroom skills on the job, while earning money to support their academic studies.

According to Kristine Borrayo, OCC career services and co-op assistant, “the twice-annual job fair has successfully connected companies and well-qualified candidates each time it is offered, often filling open positions immediately on site. In addition, students report the job fair is a tremendous opportunity to gain experience in interviewing skills and direct employment with great companies.”
