Work-Study Off-Campus Work Assignments
Off-Campus Work Assignments are found in local nonprofit,
governmental, and community-based organizations with the goal of improving the quality
of life for community residents (particularly low-income individuals) and/or to
solve problems related to their needs. A service is considered open to the community
if the service is publicized to the community and members of the community use the
service. The services offered by the student must benefit the community as opposed
to the agency or organization. These services include such fields as health care,
child care, literacy training, education/tutorial, support services for students
with disabilities, welfare, social services, transportation, housing and neighborhood
improvement, public safety, crime prevention and control, recreation and community
improvement. Students must be approved for work-study funding in order to qualify.
