Michigan Achievement Scholarship

Students who graduate from high school in Michigan in 2023 or 2024 will be eligible to apply for a new financial aid program from the State of Michigan.

Oakland Community College students may receive up to $2,750 per year, up to three years.

Students will be eligible if their family demonstrates financial need when they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Financial need is defined as a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $30,000 or less.

Eligibility Requirements

  • File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year in program.
  • Earn a high school diploma or certificate of completion or achieved a high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or later.
  • Have a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $30,000 or less according to the FAFSA.                                                                                                                                                           * 2023 graduates, see below for more information on this requirement.
  • Enroll full-time, 12 or more credit hours in a semester, at an eligible Michigan institution within 15 months of completing high school.
  • Proof of High School Diploma required.

Important update regarding 2023 Graduates!

The eligibility for MAS recipients has changed for 2024-25 based on the financial need calculations being changed from Expected Family Contribution (EFC) to a Student Aid Index (SAI).

The changes are a result of the FAFSA simplification for 2024-25 and the resulting updated application and formula.

With these changes to the FAFSA, if you received the MAS award in 2023-24, you will automatically receive it for 2024-25 if you meet all other requirements.  This special consideration will not factor in SAI as a determining factor and you will meet the financial need regardless of SAI since you received the MAS award for 2023-24.

    • Received is defined as:
    • A student receiving payment (having attended 12 credits or more in a semester) of Michigan Achievement Scholarship in 2023-24 (Fall 2023, Winter 2024, or Summer 2024).

All 2024 graduates will need to demonstrate financial need when they complete the FAFSA—by having a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $30,000 or less.
