How Does Dual Enrollment Work?

Dual enrollment at OCC is one of the smartest ways to save money and earn transferable credit to get a head start on college. And great news—most students pay nothing. If your high school sponsors you (and most do), dual enrollment at OCC is completely tuition-free. That means no cost for tuition, fees, or books.

In addition to saving money, you can transfer your credits with ease. Many students use credits toward an associate degree at OCC or transfer them to a four-year college or university in Michigan or beyond. Here’s how dual enrollment works:

  • Eligible students earn college credit through courses offered through OCC or their high schools.
  • OCC credits are widely accepted by public and private universities across Michigan.
  • To maximize credit transfer, choose Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA)-approved courses.
  • Meet with an OCC advisor to align your course choices with your long-term academic goals.

Students, high school counselors, and K-12 partners are encouraged to contact OCC’s Dual Enrollment team. We’ll help you understand your options and guide you through the next steps.

What Students are Saying

I learned through my counselor that I could take classes at OCC not offered at my high school and earn college credits toward a degree. The idea of starting college early was very cool to me. I’m now an OCC student graduating soon with an Associate of Arts. I plan to transfer my credits toward a bachelor’s degree. I highly recommend OCC’s dual enrollment program.
