LGBTQ+ Month
Oakland Community College’s Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice invites students and the community to help celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month in October.
According to the LGBT History Month website, LGBTQ+ History Month was founded in 1994 when Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school teacher, believed a month should be dedicated to the celebration and teaching of gay and lesbian history, and gathered other teachers and community leaders. They selected October because public schools are in session and existing traditions, such as Coming Out Day (October 11), occur that month.
Students, employees and the community are encouraged to join colleagues and friends in learning more about LGBTQ+ Month.

International Pronoun Day
Wednesday, Oct. 16, Noon-1 p.m. - Virtual Event
Language matters. Pronouns matter. Join us for a conversation about pronouns and how
we can support trans and nonbinary people. Together we can help ensure inclusive language
is being used and develop practices to combat traditional identity language that alienates
those in the LGBTQ+ community.
