Instructor:

Todd Benczkowski, K-9 Division, Warren Police Department. Todd and his canine partner hold the rare distinction of being both patrol certified and federally certified in narcotic detection. He has over 10 years of extensive training and experience in narcotics detection, working with several multi-jurisdictional and federal narcotic task forces. He is dually certified as a canine handler through U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers.

Jeremy Kenyon – Deputy Chief of Police, Department of Veteran Affairs. Jeremy has over 17 years of law enforcement experience with the United States Border Patrol, City of Warren  (MI) Police Department, and the Department of Veteran Affairs. Jeremy has been a canine handler/instructor since 2007 and maintains his instructor certification through the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Patrol. While serving as a K9 handler with the Border Patrol, Jeremy worked both the southern and northern borders spending the majority of that time conducting narcotic and human smuggling interdiction. He continues providing his expertise to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies by assisting with vehicle searches and locating aftermarket compartments (traps).

Course Description:

This course will provide students with an in-depth understanding of vehicle concealment techniques using both classroom and hands-on experience. Students will leave this course with an understanding of the history of vehicle concealment, methods of vehicle concealments and the ability to identify and locate vehicle “traps” and other devices. An emphasis will be placed on modern post-manufacture concealment devices and techniques including single wire concealment boxes and multi-switch relaybased traps. Students will learn how to look for indicators, then using proper tools and techniques, locate and bypass concealment devices on actual vehicles.

Required Equipment: Participants should bring their own tools including but not limited to; protective eye wear, gloves, flashlight, vehicle trim removal kit, drill/impact driver, screw drivers, wrench set, speaker wire, 2 sets of alligator clips, power source such as battery or jump start kit, wire splicers/cutters. (Limited number of tools and protective gear will be available on site)

  • The systematic approach to locating concealed contraband and post-manufacture concealment devices
  • Hands-on experience locating concealed contraband with both known and unknown scenarios
