Instructor:

JD DeLaTorre - Animal Control Officer, Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. During his fifteen-year career he has been involved in advanced investigations, animal cruelty and fighting enforcement, equine cases, tactical first aid, de-escalation, emergency livestock response, search warrant execution, evidence collection, kennel inspections, bite investigations, and public education. 

Mr. DeLaTorre currently serves as President of the Michigan Association of Animal Control Officers (MAACO). 

Course Description:

This 5-week, 120-hour training program prepares students for the duties of a professional Animal Control Officer. Successfully completing the course certifies them to serve as Animal Control Officer in the State of Michigan. 

Topics Include:

  • Identification of animal cruelty & neglect
  • Animal first aid, human first aid & CPR
  • Courtroom procedures & etiquette 
  • Knowledge of DNR laws & procedures
  • Writing detailed reports & paperwork following incidents

*** This training is recognized by NACA — Giving you approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) under the standards of the animal-care & control profession ***

*** Upon completion of this course, you will receive an official letter of completion from MDARD (Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) ***
