Continuing Professional Education (CPE) 2026
In accordance with Public Act 1 of 2023 requiring in-service training for all licensed police officers, the Oakland Police Academy is offering training in 2026 centering on Tactical Operations. Officers will receive training on Tactical Emergency Care, Emergency Preparedness and Terrorism. Attendees will learn how to properly render emergency first aid under extreme situations and be taught the skills on how to respond when encountering terrorists or extreme anarchist groups or individuals. The training is taught by instructors highly qualified in their respective field. In accordance with Public Act 1 of 2023 requiring in-service training for all licensed police officers, the Oakland Police Academy is offering training in 2026 centering on Mental Health Crisis. Students attending will learn how to properly and professionally deal with individuals they come into contact with who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The training is taught by instructors highly qualified in their respective field.
Participants can attend all three days of training for a total cost of $425, or they can attend individual blocks of instruction of their choice. Prices are listed next to each block below.
Day 1
- Advanced First Responder / First Aid – 8 hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), Mandated Training
- Presented by Justin Galvan, US Army Special Forces Medical Sergeant and Military Free Fall Instructor

- Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Control – 4 hours (8:00 am – Noon), Mandated Training

- Terrorism/Extremist Awareness – 4 hours (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm), Mandated Training
- Presented by Professor Ken Van Sparrentak, Fire Fighter Administration, Homeland Security, Criminal Justice Faculty, Oakland Community College
- This block ONLY COST: $100.00
Day 3
- Michigan Vehicle Code Update – 4 hours (8:00 am – Noon), Agency Elected Training
- Presented by Specialist Lieutenant Lance Cook, Michigan State Police, retired
- This block ONLY COST: $100.00
- Legal Issues / Update – 4 hours (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm), Agency Elected Training
- Presented by Jason Pernick, Asst. Prosecuting Attorney, Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, retired
