PPCT® Edged Weapons Countermeasures Instructor Course
Instructor:
Joseph (Little Joe) Ferrera – Sergeant, Southfield Police Department, (Retired). Joe is a Staff Instructor with PPCT Management Systems Inc. and the Oakland Police Academy. He brings over 40-years of police experience and has spent 37 years training police officers across the United States.
Course Description:
The new Edged Weapon Control System (formerly known as the Spontaneous Knife Defense Program) is based upon the reality of an imminent Lethal Force Engagement. We adopted human factor variabilities of a narrow bandwidth, and the Incapacitation Template. The Incapacitation Template includes firearms for armed officers and high-level striking skills for unarmed officers.
Topics:
- Close quarters shooting techniques for armed officers
- Checking and securing to firearms engagement
For Unarmed Officers:
- Distract & Disrupt (distract cognitive intent, while disrupting homeostasis and balance)
- Assess (situational awareness and postural control)
- Incapacitate (with immediate and decisive effects)
Required Equipment:
Loose fitting clothing or BDU’s, and soft-soled shoes (soft-sole gym shoes), duty belt.
