Instructor:

Matt Johnson - U.S. Navy SEAL veteran who served with SEAL Teams 7 and 10, including augments with DEVGRU. He completed multiple combat deployments to Afghanistan and Somalia, executing over 100 special operations missions and directly enabling the capture or elimination of 14 high-value targets.

Course Description:

This course provides officers with essential skills for operating with night vision devices (NVDs) in tactical environments. Emphasis is placed on equipment setup, low-light movement, shooting, and team coordination.

Equipment & Fundamentals:

  • Night vision setup, mounting, adjustment, and maintenance
  • Light discipline, depth perception, and operational limitations of NODs
  • Use of lasers, IR illuminators, and passive aiming methods
  • Individual and small-team movement under NODs
  • Dry fire manipulations and low-light weapon handling
  • Single-room clearing drills (Partner/Dry)

Live-Fire & Room Transitions:

  • Night marksmanship with rifle and pistol
  • Target identification and engagement in no-light conditions
  • 4-man team room clearing (Force-on-target)
  • Room-to-room flow and transition techniques (Force-on-target)

Multi-Room Operations & Scenarios:

  • Complex multi-room and structure-based movement
  • Scenario-based operational drills in darkness
  • Final qualification and performance evaluation

Required Equipment: 

Night Vision Device (NVD): Binocular or monocular system, properly mounted to a ballistic or bump helmet with a secure mounting interface.

Rifle-Mounted Aiming Laser/Illuminator: IR-capable laser suitable for night operations under night vision.

Primary Optic: Rifle-mounted red dot or holographic optic that is night-vision compatible, with usable NV settings.

Primary & Secondary Weapon systems; Rifle Sling and Weapon Retention System; Duty Vest; Gun Belt; and Full Operational Loadout; Clear Eye Protection (ANSI-Rated); Long sleeve shirt; notepad and pen.

Optional: Communication Equipment (radios, headsets); Chem lights; planning aids; Supplemental team equipment (drones, robots, shields)
