Matt Johnson - U.S. Navy SEAL veteran who served with SEAL Teams 7 and 10, including augments with DEVGRU. He completed multiple combat deployments to Afghanistan and Somalia, executing over 100 special operations missions and directly enabling the capture or elimination of 14 high-value targets

Course:

This course develops tactical proficiency in ballistic shield deployment during high-risk operations. Officers will train in shield handling, movement techniques, threat engagement, and team integration for use in warrant service, barricaded subjects, and active threat response.

Day 1: Training Objectives (8 Hours)

  • Shield types, capabilities, and limitations
  • Shield handling fundamentals: stance, movement, positioning
  • One- and two-officer shield deployment drills
  • Pistol and rifle shooting techniques while using the shield

Day 2: Training Objectives (8 Hours)

  • Shield use in team movement and room clearing
  • Shield stack formations and command roles
  • Communication, sector responsibility, and role rotation under stress
  • Live-fire drills with shield integration (CQB lanes, hallway movement)

Day 3: Training Objectives (8 Hours)

  • Scenario-based shield operations: warrant service, rescues, active threats
  • Improvised use of shields in confined and dynamic environments
  • Officer down drills and shield recovery under fire
  • Final shield team evaluation and AAR
