Under Cover Course: Vehicle Escape and Evasion

Instructor:

Jason Laferriere - 21 years working for Homeland Security Investigations, (HSI) as a Special Agent.  During his tenure with HSI he developed the Undercover Escape and Evasion program and taught nationally at every undercover school.  Also, Jason was the Assistant Team Leader for Chicago HSI Special Response Team (SRT) and the Lead Training Coordinator.  Jason developed HSI’s national SRT Control Tactics program, Undercover Rescue program from a vehicle, Edged Weapon Escape and Evasion program and Vehicle Escape and Evasion program.  Jason was a Montpelier, Vermont Police Officer, Field Supervision Officer, Correctional Officer for Vermont Department of Corrections, and a United States Coast Guard high-risk boarding team member.

Course Description:

Undercover Escape and Evasion: This course is designed for Officers working in an undercover capacity and their teams that support them.  The skills will show the UC how to escape from a structure and a vehicle when presented with a high risk or deadly force encounter.  In this course students will learn close quarter fighting skills, edged weapon escape and evasion and vehicle escape and evasion. Students will also learn Undercover Rescue from a Vehicle.  The principles taught in this course can be utilized by a Patrol Officer who finds themselves in a fight for their life situation inside of their patrol car or in an arrest scenario.  The undercover rescue from a vehicle can also be utilized by a patrol Officer for Hostage Rescue from a Vehicle.  Students will then learn a two to four Officer Hostage Rescue concept designed to rescue an Undercover Officer/Hostage in a deadly force situation.  Students will also learn how to take the concepts learned in vehicular Undercover Rescue to affect a high-risk vehicle stop/takedown utilizing two to four Officers.

Course Details: 

Students will be required to demonstrate knowledge of all course materials.  Additionally, the instructor will evaluate students’ comprehension and retention of course topics based on their participation in practical exercises/scenarios and discussions conducted during the course.  Evaluation forms completed by each student will provide feedback to NEMRT on the quality of the course content and the instructor’s effectiveness in delivering this content.

Required Equipment:

Students are expected to bring duty belt, duty pistol, duty long gun, flashlight or weapon mounted light and body armor
