OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan – Expect the best at these special spring events featuring live music from Oakland Community College’s Fine and Performing Arts Department and a special poetry celebration from OCC’s English Department.
- Student Music Showcase, Apr. 13 at 7:30 p.m., OCC's Orchard Ridge Campus, Smith Theatre in Farmington Hills. Join the College's aspiring student musicians for live performances as they showcase their talents in concert.
- OCC Jazz Band Concert, Apr. 21 at 7:30 p.m., OCC's Highland Lakes Campus, Student Center Arena. Enjoy this free live concert featuring a wide variety of music from 1930s to the present, arranged for "big band." Under the direction of OCC Jazz Band leader, Tom Dennis, the group performs with female vocalists for a lively, interactive event.
- 4th Annual Poetry Celebration: Exploring the Poems of Juan Felipe Herrera, Apr. 6 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at OCC's Orchard Ridge Campus, Studio Theatre, Room J292, Farmington Hills. Join poet David James and other OCC faculty and students in celebrating the poetry of the first Latino poet laureate of the United States, Juan Felipe Herrera. Bring a lunch and enjoy readings of Herrera's acclaimed works, along with a discussion of what being a poet laureate involves. A brief poetry writing activity will be included. The event celebrates National Poetry Month and Celebrate Diversity Month.
