How to Get Started
Get an OCC Student Email Address, if you haven’t done so already.
To sign up, go to Sign In to Student Email.
Check your OCC Student Email Address frequently so you do not miss responding to any time-sensitive requests from an instructor or other part of OCC.
When you send an email to OCC (such as an assignment to your instructor), use your OCC Student Email Address. This ensures your message is not mistaken as spam.

Why do you need to do this?
- An OCC Student Email Account is required for registration.
- Official communications about your classes, billing statements, financial aid, accounts, retention alerts, etc. will come only to your Student Email (no longer on paper). This also includes notice of school closings and health and safety issues.
Security & Privacy
- OCC will never request personal or confidential information such as social security number, credit/debit card numbers, or bank account identification information by email.
- Students are responsible for keeping their email passwords confidential, and must not share it with others.
Student Email Account Usage Guidelines
To ensure the effectiveness and security of the College email system, the following conditions apply:
- OCC considers students to be informed and in receipt of correspondence sent to their OCC email account.
- Students are responsible for reading their college email regularly and recognizing that certain communications are time sensitive.
- Students may forward their OCC email to a personal account. The College is not responsible for delivery issues with forwarded email. Students remain responsible for all official communications sent to their OCC email account.
- The OCC Student Code of Conduct, and the “Technology Appropriate Use Regulations” (TAUR) College policy applies to the student email. The College reserves the right to immediately suspend or withdraw access to student email if there is reason to believe a violation of the Student Code of Conduct or TAUR policy has occurred. Alleged violations will be referred for investigation and resolution under the College’s Student Disciplinary procedures.
- Students with a disability who are unable to access their email account may request support from ACCESS Office.
- Student email communications must comply with federal and/or state regulations and college policies.
- Communication via the OCC student email are subject to the same public information, privacy, and records retention laws as other forms of communication. Forwarding OCC email to outside accounts or sharing messages with third parties may negate the privacy protection rights otherwise afforded to the College.
- If the College determines an email account poses a potential security risk, the College reserves the right to immediately remove access.
- The College reserves the right to withdraw email access if it determines the email account is not being used for College related business.
Frequently Asked Questions
Accepted and currently enrolled students of OCC have access to a student email account. Accounts are deleted and purged approximately three years after the last semester attended with a grade.
Students are responsible for forwarding any messages, documents and contacts they want to keep to a personal email account (see Google Takeout). OCC email should not be attached to personal banking, credit, social media or subscriptions.
If this occurs, you will receive a new student user name and student email account upon active enrollment.
Yes, you can forward your OCC email to a personal account, however, you do so at your own risk. If you choose to forward, make sure you're forwarding to an email address you check regularly and that has enough storage space for new messages. You remain responsible for all official communications sent to your OCC email account, even if forwarding fails or messages are blocked by your personal email provider. The College will not contact you if the mail cannot be delivered to your preferred address.
Yes, you can choose to forward your OCC email account at any time. However, OCC is not responsible for email that has been forwarded to any other email address.
You risk the consequences of missing important deadlines and information about registration, financial aid, etc. College offices will hold you responsible for all email communications and notifications sent to your College email account. Student passwords expire every 180 days. OCC will send you a notification email prior to expiration. If you do not change your password, you will not be able to access OCC systems, including email until your password is reset.
No, select information may continue to be sent via regular US postal mail. The College also may text or call your phone. However, college offices will more frequently utilize email as OCC’s official method of communications.
Official College communications are defined as any administrative correspondence that either requires a response from the student or are required notifications by the College to the student. No, OCC student email is for official communications from administrative offices that require a student to take action or to notify a student of important information. OCC student email is not a public list for promoting outside sales, services, and advertising.
Students are responsible for:
- Checking college email on a regular basis for any new official communications. As most correspondence identified to be sent may vary in purpose, either initiated by the student (like Title IV authorizations and refund notices) or sent on a pre-determined schedule (like Enrollment notices and bills), the frequency for checking your campus email account for official communications may differ from student to student.
- If you use a non-OCC email software program instead of the OCC system, then you must ensure that your OCC student email is considered a trusted address so it will not be filtered out as spam by your email software. Please keep in mind that the College is not responsible for official communications that cannot be delivered because the OCC email was blocked by commercial or personal spam filters.
- If a communication indicates that you need to take action, you should do so within any deadlines indicated. If you have a question about any specific communication, contact the appropriate sending office for assistance.
Every student enrolled at OCC receives a college email account. This account is accessible via the World Wide Web, where Internet access is provided, including public libraries and many
other public places. You may also access your college email account from your smart phone or any computer on any OCC campus, facility, or library
