Do you have an AP English score?
If you received a 3 or higher on an AP English exam and the score is less than three
years old, Contact an OCC counselor to verify your score and discuss your English Placement.
If you received less than a 3, use the English Placement Process.

Do you have a CLEP Composition score?
If you got a 50 or higher on the CLEP Composition exam and the score is less than
three years old, Contact an OCC counselor to verify your score and discuss your English Placement.
If you received less than a 50, use the English Placement Process.

Do you have a 3.0+ High School GPA?
Use High School GPA to place into English (ENG 1510)
If you are a current high school senior, or have graduated with a GPA (unweighted)
of 3.0 or higher within the last 3 years, you may enroll in English (ENG 1510) directly
without completing the English self-guided placement test. Upload your official high
school transcript with your application to OCC or email transcripts to admissions@oaklandcc.edu.

Did you take an English Composition course at a different college or university?
If you took a course at an accredited U.S. college or university that is equivalent
to OCC’s English 1510, Composition I, and received a “C” or better in the course on
your transcript, contact an OCC counselor.

Are you a college student from another college or university?
The student is responsible for satisfying all prerequisites and/or corequisites of
any selected class prior to attempting enrollment. Automated system checks enforce
this requirement and will disallow registration efforts for those not meeting course
qualifications. Secondary checks may reveal enrolled students who do not meet the
prerequisite or corequisite requirements after registration. These students may be
administratively withdrawn from their courses. The prerequisite exemption for college
guest students and students with a bachelor's degree or higher from a U.S. college
or university is not applicable to all departments. Students should review the department's
listing of classes to determine if the exemption has been removed.
