Personal Counseling

Sometimes life gets complicated, and that can make it harder to stay focused on school. If you’re going through something, OCC Counseling is here to help. We offer short-term personal counseling for currently enrolled students to support your mental health and overall well-being while you work toward your goals.

When to Seek Personal Counseling

Our counseling services are designed to give you support when you need it, but they’re not meant to be long-term or cover every situation. If you need additional or ongoing help, we’ll connect you with trusted resources in the community.

Students often come to counseling to:

  • Manage stress, anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship challenges
  • Build stronger coping and self-management skills
  • Work through negative or unhelpful thought patterns
  • Navigate school, family, or personal obstacles
  • Talk through questions about school, careers, or next steps
  • Get support during a short-term crisis

You can schedule a counseling appointment through MyOCC using the "Make a Counseling Appointment" card.

When to Seek Outside Help

Because our services are short-term and focused, there are times when we’ll recommend support outside of OCC. This helps make sure you get the right kind of care for your needs. We may refer you to community providers if you need:

  • Ongoing or long-term mental health support
  • Help managing thoughts of harm to yourself or others
  • Frequent or after-hours crisis support
  • Psychological testing or evaluations (for school, work, or legal purposes)
  • Medication management or psychiatric services
  • Specialized treatment (such as eating disorders or substance abuse)
  • Ongoing support for domestic violence situations
  • Legal-related evaluations or services

If your needs go beyond what we offer, we'll help you find the right next step and connect you with resources that can support you.
