Contact a Counselor
Because of COVID-19, in-person counseling is temporarily unavailable at OCC. However, counselors are ready to help you by email, phone, or Zoom.
Email counseling is available during business hours, but you need to make appointments for phone or Zoom counseling. Email counseling works best for those with quick questions. Phone counseling works well for issues that are a little more complicated or if you’re new to college. If you are a current student in good academic standing, you can schedule an appointment through your MYOCC account under the Academic Profile section. If you are a new student or a current student who is not in good academic standing, you need to call one of the counseling numbers.
To get help by email, send a message to one of the Ask a Counselor addresses listed below. You must use your OCC email account for this message. This is required because of federal privacy regulations.
Phone counseling works well for issues that are a little more complicated or if you’re new to college. Sessions should last 30 minutes or less.
If you’re a current student, you can make an appointment for telephone counseling in MyOCC under Academic Profile. If you’re a new student, you need to call one of the counseling numbers listed below.
At the appointment time, the counselor will call you at the phone number in your file. If your questions require the counselor to access your student record, the counselor will ask a series of questions to verify your identity. This is required to comply with federal privacy regulations.
Zoom is a fine choice for virtually any issue. It’s especially helpful if you need to share screens to review records, graduation status, transfer plans, or similar information.
If you’re a new student, before scheduling a remote Zoom appointment you should have:
- Set up your MyOCC and student email accounts
- Finished new student orientation if applicable
- Taken the online readiness class if you plan to take an online or hybrid class
- Completed any necessary placement tests
- Ensured OCC has received your transcripts if you’ve attended college elsewhere
To make an appointment, call one of the counseling numbers listed below. The counselor will send a Zoom session link to your OCC email account that will become active about 5 minutes before your 30-minute session.
To comply with federal privacy regulations, have your photo identification ready so the counselor can verify your identity before discussing confidential information.
Note that Zoom appointments aren’t available as same-day sessions or during peak registration days.
You don’t need a Zoom account for a Zoom appointment. However, you must have a desktop or laptop computer, a tablet, or a smartphone with a camera. You can check Zoom’s technical requirements before your call.
