Adam Ston - Alumni Profile

Adam StonAdam Ston, of Chicago, Illinois, is training to be a comedy writer for The Second City conservatory in Chicago.  He graduated from OCC in 2011 with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts, and in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia College Chicago in acting with a minor in fiction writing.

Why did you choose to attend OCC?
I didn’t apply myself too much in high school.  I was guided to attend OCC by my parents.  OCC helped me recover precious time.  I made up for that lost time, and learned how to apply the knowledge I learned in class to my career.

What is your fondest memory of OCC?
It was at OCC that I fell in love with American history and found I had a liking for economics and government.

What surprised you the most about OCC?
OCC showed me that I had the drive and determination to go after what I wanted.

How did attending OCC impact your life?
OCC prepared me for my life journey.  I don’t think I would have made it to a four-year university or Chicago to study at the home of American satirical comedy if it wasn’t for the arsenal of knowledge and skills OCC provided.

What has been your most rewarding professional or personal experience since graduating?
From the time I was a toddler, I wanted to make people laugh.  Comedy was something I took to with a reckless, joyful abandon.  I have been able to use the subjects I learned about at OCC, like history, economics and government to write and study at The Second City conservatory.

What would you like for people to know about OCC that they might not necessarily know?
As much as I love comedy and am grateful that I’m following my dream of a career in comedy, I am just as thankful for my education at Oakland Community College – and I suspect many more people are just as thankful as me.
