Campaign for the Culinary Studies Institute
Oakland Community College recently opened a state-of-the-art Culinary Studies Institute. Featuring five teaching kitchens, two demonstration kitchens, three classrooms, cafe, and a full teaching restaurant, OCC will continue to offer the best culinary education in the State of Michigan.
“The Next Course: Campaign for the Culinary Studies Institute” is a $2.5-million-dollar campaign which will provide OCC's Culinary students with direct support to thrive in the classroom and their career.
Direct Student Support:
Endowments will provide annual funding in perpetuity for:
Culinary Scholarships:
Award over $35,000 per year in new scholarship opportunities to OCC Culinary Students.
Chef Jackets & Knife Sets:
Provide a personalized chef jacket and kitchen essentials knife set to every student entering the program.
Essential Textbooks:
Provide On Cooking: A Textbook of Culinary Fundamentals* to every student entering
the program.
*or similar textbook, as determined by program faculty
Industry Certifications:
Cover the cost of the ServSafe Manager book and exam for every student entering the program, and the cost of the TIPS alcohol training book and exam for 30 students per year.
Classrooms & Community Programming:
The Classroom & Community Programming Endowment will provide annual funding in perpetuity for:
Student Competitions:
Support OCC’s award-winning students as they compete in local, state, and national competitions.
Community Education:
Expand non-credit continuing education offerings - from wine and cheese pairing date-night classes to advanced food preparation trainings.
Classroom Equipment:
Ensure that OCC’s students continue to learn on the cutting edge of industry trends and graduate with in-demand skills by furnishing OCC’s classrooms and instructional kitchens with state-of-the-art equipment upgrades.
Community Events:
Grow outside-the-classroom learning opportunities for our students while providing industry and community exposure.
Guest Chef Lectures:
Attract notable chefs and leading industry partners to host guest lectures, demonstrations, and kitchen takeovers.
Culinary Enhancements:
The Culinary Enhancements Fund will provide one-time funding for:
Indoor Garden:
Provide a unique learning experience, where students will learn to grow their own greens, herbs, vegetables year-round.
Hospitality Management:
Enhance student learning and guest experience by furnishing front-of-house enhancements.
Chocolate Making:
Upgrade OCC’s Baking and Pastry kitchens with an industry-best artisan chocolate bar scale line and chocolate sprayers.
Classroom Technology:
Improve instruction in OCC’s kitchens and classrooms with tablets and other technology.
