For the fifth straight year, Oakland Community College (OCC) has earned the national Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) distinguished “Triple Crown” award, recognizing continued excellence in financial reporting, transparency and budget presentation.
The honor combines three national GFOA awards:
- Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for OCC's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024.
- Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the College’s Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024.
- Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Budget and Financial Forecast for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025.
OCC is the only community college in Michigan to receive the prestigious GFO Triple Crown and joins a handful of public entities in the state earning this distinction, including the Cities of Grand Rapids, Holland, Portage and Rochester Hills. Nationally, OCC is also one of only a few community colleges to have achieved the honor.
“Earning the GFOA Triple Crown for the five consecutive years reflects the College’s dedication to meticulous financial reporting, the highest principals in budgeting and accountability and excellence in responsible financial stewardship for our community,” said Christina (Tina) Kostiuk, OCC Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services. “I’d like to recognize Sharon Converse, Renee Oszust and our expert Financial Services team for their commitment to ensuring our financial reporting and budgeting remain among the best in the nation.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. OCC’s ACFR provides audited financial statements, historical data, statistics and analysis providing a comprehensive view of the College’s financial health.
The PAFR presents OCC’s financial information in an accessible format for the community. The 24-page award-winning document highlights the College’s history, strategic priorities, points of pride with detailed financial information and budget overview for future planning and capital projects.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program supports state and local governments in producing high-quality budget documents and honors those that meet its rigorous standards. The College’s annual Budget and Financial Forecast provides stakeholders with a clear and in-depth review of the budget, four-year financial projections, strategic priorities and key institutional data.
