OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan – Oakland Community College will be celebrating Patriot Week next week with a variety of events in remembrance of the September 11 attacks and the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution on September 17.
Patriot Week events include the following:
- Chancellor Tim Meyer welcomes the honorable Judge Michael Warren to the Royal Oak campus Wednesday, September 16 from 12:15 p.m. – 1 p.m., who will speak on “Immigrants and Their Diverse Contributions for Liberty: Yesterday, Today, and Beyond.” Judge Warren was appointed to the Oakland County Circuit Court in 2002 by then Governor John Engler, and was retained and re-elected in 2004, 2006 and 2012. He has taught Constitutional Law at Cooley Law School, and is the co-producer of Patriot Lessons (Birmingham/Bloomfield Community TV). He is the author of “America’s Survival Guide, How to Stop America’s Impending Suicide by Reclaiming Our First Principles,” a former member of the State Board of Education and current board member of Cornerstone Schools Association.
- Free copies of the U.S. Constitution will be distributed while supplies last at every campus on September 17: Auburn Hills at 11:00 a.m., Student Center Cafeteria; Highland Lakes Woodland Hall North, 100 Level Lobby area; Orchard Ridge Student Center Cafeteria at 11:00 a.m.; Royal Oak Alcove, 11:00 a.m.; and Southfield Student Center, Room A-129, at 3:00 p.m.
- Voter Registration Fairs: Register to vote at the voter booths on campuses: Southfield Student Engagement Center, A-129 on September 15 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., September 15-17 at Auburn Hills Student Center Cafeteria, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Highland Lakes Woodland Hall North, 100 Level Lobby; September 16 and 17 at Orchard Ridge Student Center Cafeteria, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; and September 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Oak Campus Alcove.
- In the spirit of service to the community, a canned food drive was held September 8-11 at all campuses assisting community food banks, including The Open Door, Gleaners, and Forgotten Harvest.
