What is Pre-Apprenticeship?

Pre-Apprenticeship is a program that is designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) and/or employment. Pre-apprenticeship can fast track your way into high-paying jobs that are in demand!

OCC's Skilled Trades and Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Program

This skilled trades and advanced manufacturing pre-apprenticeship program offers three classes related to a variety of technical skills for this program pathway only.  Students will gain the knowledge and skills to enter into a Registered Apprenticeship or entry-level job in the skilled trades and advanced manufacturing occupations.  The program meets in-person on the campus of Auburn Hills in a classroom setting. 

Upon successful completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program students will receive:

  • 8 Academic Credit Hours from OCC upon successful completion of the program 
  • 120 Related Technical Instruction (RTI) hours towards a Registered Apprenticeship Program
  • OSHA-10 Industry Safety Card
  • NC3 Ethic Employability Certificate
  • NC3 Precision, Measurement and Instrumentation Certificates
  • Industry-led Tours
  • Career Readiness and Workplace Skills Training
  • Employer Interviews
  • Registered Apprenticeship and Employment Opportunities
  • Certificate of Program Completion

Pre-Apprenticeship Pathways - Virtual Information Session
Wednesday, November 19 at Noon
Online via Zoom

During this exclusive one-hour session, you’ll learn about both of OCC’s pre-apprenticeship programs – construction and skilled trades/manufacturing. These five to eight week short-term training programs are intended to help you kick start your career. During the presentation, you’ll discover what the workforce looks like, hear more about course curriculum, learn about the industry certifications you can earn, how you might qualify for funding, and the application process.

How to Apply

  • STEP 1: Fill out the Pre-Apprenticeship application and email form to the apprenticeship@oaklandcc.edu 
  • STEP 2: Are you an OCC Student already.  If  "Yes" go to Step 4. 
    If not, please create a Profile & Complete the Online Application for Admission
    (please allow 2 business days for processing)
  • STEP 3: Set-up a MyOCC account and OCC Student Email. 
  • STEP 4: Complete the Online New Student Orientation accessible through your MyOCC account.
  • STEP 5: Oakland County Michigan Works! has funding available that may be able to assist students enrolled in OCC’s pre-apprenticeship program who are experiencing barriers getting to or remaining in training.
    Supports may include assistance with mileage, books and supplies, or other costs associated with training.

  • The Pre-Apprenticeship Program is five (5) weeks in length and meets in-person four (4) days a week
  • The Pre-Apprenticeship Program is offered in-person Monday through Thursday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • Attendance is mandatory
  • Employer interviews are required as part of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program
  • Industry tours are required as part of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program

  • The program will be provided to the participant at no cost
  • Oakland County Michigan Works! has funding available that may be able to assist students enrolled in OCC’s pre-apprenticeship program who are experiencing barriers getting to or remaining in training.   • Students entering the program must be available during the scheduled time. This includes: classroom time, lab time, industry tours and interview days which are a requirement for completion of the program.
  • Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age or will turn 18 years of age prior to the completion of the program.
