Students Transferring to OCC

Oakland Community College welcomes transfer students from other institutions of higher education and always tries to award direct equivalent credit. When direct equivalencies are not available, elective credit is usually awarded.

The following steps will guide you through the process of transferring to OCC.

Step 1: Complete online application

Go to apply. Complete the Profile and Application forms. Confirmation emails are sent when the application is received and again when processed. Please allow two (2) business days for processing.

NOTE: After submitting your application, refresh your Admission Profile. You will see a tab called Supplemental Items & Documents. This area will allow you to upload optional and/or required documents.

Step 2: Set Up Your MyOCC Account

When your application is processed you will receive two separate emails - One with your OCC Student ID number along with a link to retrieve your username from Admissions and a second email from Online Services with your Temporary Password

MyOCC is where you will access your student email account, pre-registration steps, register for classes, payment information, and more.

Step 3: Have Your Official Transcripts Mailed or Emailed to OCC

Official transcripts from US or Canadian institutions MUST be sent from your previous accredited university or college to OCC. Your previous institution can email official transcripts to transcripts@oaklandcc.edu or physically mail them to Oakland Community College, Transcript Evaluations, 2900 Featherstone Rd, Auburn Hills, MI 48326-2845. International transcripts (excluding those from Canadian institutions) must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) before OCC can consider international credits for transfer. After your transcript has been evaluated, notification will be sent to your OCC email. You may log into your student account to review the results of your transcript evaluation.

Step 4: Online Learning Readiness Course

The Online Learning Readiness Course is required before you can register for any online or hybrid classes. Log into MyOCC and select Online Learning Readiness Course under the Pre-Registration Steps card.

Step 5: New Student Orientation - Online

You must complete New Student Orientation before you register for classes. To access orientation, log into MyOCC and select Pre-Registration Steps card, then click New Student Orientation. You ONLY have to complete the New Student Orientation and a brief Student Survey at the end. While there are also many Student Lingos that are informative, they are NOT required.

Step 6: Complete Your FAFSA (if applicable)

Award letter and status of your application may be found under Financial Profile on MyOCC. Check for important deadlines.

Step 7: Placement (if applicable)

Students may be exempt from taking English, ESL and Math Placement if they meet the exemption guidelines.

Step 8: Meet with A Counselor

While counseling is not mandatory for transfer students, you are highly encouraged to meet with a counselor to review official or unofficial transcripts, identify classes that meet pre-requisites and assist with course selection to ensure progress toward student goals, including certificate and degree completion.

Complete Steps 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 before you meet with a counselor so the registration hold can be released.  Step 5-Applying for Financial Aid is highly recommended due to the strong likelihood of an award, but it is not required prior to your appointment.

NOTE: Students unable to request official transcripts in time for the semester start can be granted a one semester waiver with unofficial transcripts by an OCC counselor.

Step 9 Register for Classes via MyOCC

Log into MyOCC and select the Student Planning card. Click on the Plan your Degree & Register for Classes option to search and register for classes.

Step 11: Get Your Raider One Card

The Raider One Card is your Official OCC Student ID. It serves as your Student ID, Library Card, Copy/Print Card, and iROC Cash for Raiders Store and Cafe purchases. Your first card is free, replacement cards cost $10. Your official OCC Student ID can be picked up at the Business Office.

Step 12: Buy Your Books

You can order and have your books delivered from the Raider’s Store. The Raider Bookstore provides competitive comparisons to get your books!
