What is Pre-Apprenticeship?

Pre-Apprenticeship is a program that is designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) or job opportunities.  Pre-Apprenticeships may last a few weeks to a few months.  Pre-Apprenticeship Programs have varied program elements; however at the core, places an individual towards a pathway in a Registered Apprenticeship Program. 

Pre-Apprenticeship Program in Skilled Trades and Manufacturing

Oakland Community College's Pre-Apprenticeship Program offers three courses related to a variety of skilled trade and manufacturing occupations.  Students will gain the knowledge and skills to enter into a Registered Apprenticeship or entry-level job in the trades.  

Upon successful completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program students will receive:

  • 8 academic credits
  • OSHA10
  • NC3 Mike Rowe WORKS Ethic Employability Certificate
  • Precision, measurement and instrumentation
  • Industry tours
  • Career readiness and workplace skills 
  • Employment offers

Students will also receive the training they need for a new and exciting career in a number of apprenticeship programs; including:

  • Machine Builder
  • CNC Machinist 
  • Maintenance Technician
  • Electrical Technician
  • CAD Designer
  • Pattern Maker
  • Installation Technician
  • Welder (Welder-Fitter)
  • HVAC Technician
  • Automotive Technician

SCHEDULE

  • The Pre-Apprenticeship Program is five (5) weeks in length
  • The Pre-Apprenticeship Program is offered in-person Monday through Thursday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • Attendance is mandatory
  • Employer interviews are required as part of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program
  • Industry tours are required as part of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program

  • The program will be provided to the participant at no cost

ELIGIBILITY

  • Students entering the program must be available during the scheduled time. This includes: classroom time, lab time, industry tours and interview days which are a requirement for completion of the program.
  • Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age or will turn 18 years of age prior to the completion of the program.
