Pre-Apprenticeship Construction

Jobs in the construction industry are in high demand. The training program is designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to kick start your career in the construction industry. This is a comprehensive program with a hands-on approach, combining classroom instruction with practical experience. 

Average entry-level wage range: $15-25 per hour

Program Information

  • Cohort 2:  Fall 2025
  • Days/Times:  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Program Length:  8 weeks
  • Location:  Auburn Hills
  • Cost:  $3,500

What to Expect

  • Focus:  CPR and First Aid, safety, introduction to construction, hand/power tools, material handling, basic rigging, and more
  • Certifications:  NCCER credentials
  • Resources:  We understand that you may encounter unexpected challenges. We do our best to help you succeed during the training. We have compiled a resource list with OCC and community-based accommodations, career services, clothing resources, food assistance, technology, and more.

Application Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  • 17 years of age or older
  • Not currently registered in school within a local educational agency
  • Registered with the Selective Service (if applicable)
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Other eligibility factors may apply
  • Attend an information session
  • Complete the application process – apply for Michigan Works! funding or pay out of pocket

Entry Level

  • Education: OCC short-term training certificate
  • Sample Occupations: Apprentice or Laborer/Helper

Mid Level

Professional 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, professional experience, etc.
  • Sample Occupations: Foreman, Supervisor, Building Inspector, Project/Construction Manager, etc.
