Pre-Apprenticeship Pathways – Virtual Information Session

During this exclusive one-hour session, you’ll learn about both of OCC’s pre-apprenticeship
programs –
construction and skilled trades/manufacturing. These five to eight week short-term training programs are intended to help you kick
start your career. During the presentation, you’ll discover what the workforce looks
like, hear more about course curriculum, learn about the industry certifications you
can earn, how you might qualify for funding, and the application process.

- Days/Times: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Program Length: 8 weeks
- Location: Auburn Hills campus
- Cost: $3,500
- Funding: We have partnered with Oakland County Michigan Works! to offer this training to qualified candidates. Potential funding options are available with Michigan Works! and the Michigan Achievement Skills Scholarship.
What to Expect
- Focus: CPR and First Aid, safety, introduction to construction, hand/power tools, material handling, basic rigging, and more
- Certifications: NCCER credentials
- Resources: We understand that you may encounter unexpected challenges. We do our best to help you succeed during the training. We have compiled a resource list with OCC and community-based accommodations, career services, clothing resources, food assistance, technology, and more.
Application Requirements
- U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen
- 17 years of age or older
- Not currently registered in school within a local educational agency
- Registered with the Selective Service (if applicable)
- Unemployed or underemployed
- Other eligibility factors may apply
- Attend an information session
- Complete the application process – apply for Michigan Works! funding or pay out of pocket

Entry Level
- Education: OCC short-term training certificate
- Sample Occupations: Apprentice or Laborer/Helper
Mid Level
- Education: OCC certificate or associate’s degree
- Sample Occupations: Journeyman, Equipment Operator or Specialty Worker (Welder, Mason, HVAC, etc.)
Professional
- Education: Bachelor’s degree, professional experience, etc.
- Sample Occupations: Foreman, Supervisor, Building Inspector, Project/Construction Manager, etc.
