Computer Security Technician Program

Jobs in the Information Technology field are in high-demand. Training for the Computer Security Technician program will include three classes related to CompTIA, Customer Service and soft skills classes to prepare you for a job in the technology industry. Individuals with CompTIA certifications typically can start their career as a helpdesk technician, IT technician, helpdesk analyst and similar roles. 

  • Average entry-level wage range:  $20/hour and up
Free Training Available to Qualified Candidates 

We have partnered with Oakland County Michigan Works! to offer this no-cost training to qualified workers. Attend a training program information session. 

Program Information

  • Dates:  October 17 - December 16, 2022 and February 6 - April 7, 2023
  • Days/Times:  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location:  Auburn Hills Campus

What to expect

  • Focus: CompTIA, Customer Service, NC3 Mike Rowe Work Ethic and Workplace Skills
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Certified Customer Service Professional (CSSP) and NC3 Mike Rowe Work Ethic

Application Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  • 17 years of age or older
  • Non currently registered in school within a local educational agency
  • Registered with the Selective Service (if applicable)
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Other eligibility factors may apply

Career Pathway

Jobs in the IT industry are in high demand and several opportunities are available for IT professionals. Your personal career pathway will depend on training, education, and on-the-job experience.

Entry level 

  • Education:  OCC short-term training certificate
  • Sample occupations:  Helpdesk Analyst, Network Technician, IT Support Technician, etc.

Technical

  • Education:  OCC certificate or associate's degree
  • Sample occupations:  Network Administrator, Systems Administrator, Information Security Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, etc.  

Professional

  • Education:  Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, professional experience, etc.
  • Sample occupations:  Cyber Security Engineer, Chief Technology Officer, Network Engineer, etc.
