Electric Vehicle (EV) Technician

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Technician Training Program at Oakland Community College is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving field of electric vehicle technology. This is a unique opportunity to get involved as the industry shifts towards more sustainable technology which includes electrification. Not only will the training touch on electric vehicles (EV) but also connects to its application in the automation of manufacturing with automated guided vehicles (AGV) as well as an introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

Average entry-level wage range: $18 - $24 per hour

Course Details

What to Expect

  • Focus:  The EV Technician program is designed to give you the fundamentals of EV concepts and may be used for those looking for positions in the areas of automotive assembly, manufacturing and electrification industry. 
  • Certifications:  OHSA 10, American Heart Association CPR & Frist Aid, Smart Automation Certifications (SACA C-202 Electric Motor Control Systems 1, C-204 Motor Control Troubleshooting 1, C-205 Sensor Logic Systems 1), Oakland Community College Certificate of Completion, SME Electric Vehicle Fundamentals (EVF) and the potential of 6 college credits
  • Real-world experience:  This program is 70% hands-on to give you the experience need for industry.

Application Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen  
  • 17 years or older  
  • Commitment to 14 weeks of training
  • Not currently registered in school within a local educational agency  
  • Registered with the Selective Service (if applicable)  
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Other eligibility factors may apply  

This program is eligible for Michigan Works! funding.
