Advanced Canine Emergency First Aid
Instructor:
Judith Fleischaker, DVM, MS – Colorado State University. Dr. Fleischaker has 37 years of Emergency and Critical Medicine experience. She has taught emergency and critical care to a variety of Police Canine groups across the country as well as experience with military and search and rescue training. She is a licensed veterinarian in the states of Colorado and Michigan.
K9 Handlers will learn:
- Basic anatomy
- Normal vital signs
- Bandaging techniques
- Basic venous access
- About bloat and how to pass a bloat tube
- CPR and how to pass an endotracheal tube and use an Ambu bag
- Common emergency scenarios and how to provide emergency first aid
Course Description:
This comprehensive 2-day course will teach K9 handlers the necessary advanced first aid skills for their canine partner. Officers will learn how to implement these skills through a combination of lecture and hands-on, true to life scenarios. This is a Registry of Approved Continuing Education course (RACE).
