Officer Involved Shootings
Instructor:
Jerry Rodriguez – Captain, Los Angeles Police Department, Retired. Jerry served in numerous command positions, among them as Patrol Commanding Officer and Adjutant to the Office of Operations. He has experience with the Baltimore Police Department as Deputy Police Commissioner in Charge of the Professional Standard’s Bureau, and Chief of Investigations for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. Jerry consulted and guided municipalities on high profile police-involved incidents, and since retiring as a Law Enforcement Expert in 2021, he has worked on high-profile and sensitive cases.
Course Description:
This course provides the knowledge, skills, and investigative protocols necessary to handle any law enforcement use of force and in - custody death investigations. Attendees will be provided with the investigative knowledge applicable to all uses of force situations involving law enforcement (lethal and less lethal, hits or non-hits) and in-custody death investigations, regardless of the size of their department, and whether the incident occurred on or off duty. Officer-involved use of force investigations require a unique skill set that is gained through training and experience. The stakes for the involved officers and the departments are so high that it is imperative that the investigations be conducted using industry standards that seek to find the truth while never compromising investigative integrity.

- Adjudication of uses of force
- Related identified misconduct allegations
- Table top discussion from initial response to the scene, reporting/documenting
- Prosecutor considerations
