OCC Launches New Program to Close Manufacturing Skills Gap

Learn about OCC’s Five-Week Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Upcoming Virtual Information Sessions

A Pre-Apprenticeship program at Oakland Community College that helps prepare students to enter a career or apprenticeship in manufacturing will be the subject of three virtual information sessions offered in January and February. The one-hour information sessions will be offered via Zoom and will be held:

          ·         Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1 to 2 p.m.
          ·         Thursday, Jan. 28, 5 to 6 p.m.
          ·         Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1 to 2 p.m.

Pre-Apprenticeship

Each session will discuss OCC’s new, no-cost, pre-apprenticeship program and how it can provide students a career path in manufacturing with employment or an employer sponsored apprenticeship.

OCC’s Pre-Apprenticeship program begins March 10. The five-week program provides students with basic manufacturing skills such as shop math and blueprint reading, with an opportunity to also earn the OSHA 10 and MikeRowe WORKS Employability Skills certifications. Students will also participate in interview preparation, including resume writing and mock job interviews, and receive a variety of networking opportunities with potential employers to increase their chances at a manufacturing career.

Space for OCC's Pre-Apprenticeship info sessions is limited. Registration is online. For more information regarding this event or the Pre-Apprenticeship program, email apprenticeship@oaklandcc.edu.
