HVAC/R Systems Technology

HVAC/R Systems Technology

The HVAC/R System Technology program is designed to qualify students for careers in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration, system designers, estimators, manufacturers’ representatives, equipment fabricators, application technicians, salespeople, installation mechanics, service people, maintenance mechanics and many other related skilled and semi-skilled positions. The student will utilize a cross section of skills: fabrication, electrical and mechanical.

Did you know? HVACR technicians work mostly in homes, schools, hospitals, office buildings, or factories. Their worksites may be very hot or cold because the heating and cooling systems they must repair may not be working properly and because some parts of these systems are located outdoors. Prospective students must meet standard OCC eligibility requirements – there is an open admissions policy and placement tests and new student orientation are required in most cases. Students should meet with an OCC counselor before attempting this plan of study.

Advisory committees play an integral role in the occupational programs at OCC.  As our connection to industry and other education partners, advisory committee members offer guidance on the program’s curriculum to ensure we are offering programming that aligns with industry needs.  Advisory committee members also offer recommendations on equipment to purchase that ensures students are receiving training on equipment that mirrors what they will see in industry. The HVAC/R Systems Technology program is appreciative of its partners.
