How to Become a Medical Assistant in Michigan
OCC's Medical Assisting certificates includes numerous options, such as the general
Medical Assisting Certificate program as well as Certificates of Achievement in:
- Office Administration
- Medical Office Insurance Billing/Coding
- Phlebotomy
After completing the Medical Assisting Certificate program, students can sit for any
national certification, including the American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA)
exam.

Medical Assisting Options
You can receive
free tuition and a
full-time job working as a medical assistant through OCC’s apprenticeship programs with
Henry Ford Health and Integrated Healthcare Association,
MiWorks will assist you with additional expenses like textbooks, scrubs and stethoscopes.

Certificate Highlights
Choose from part-time or full-time course loads. Programs that can be completed in
one semester include:
The Medical Assisting Certificate program (MDA.CT) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
(CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board.
There is no selection process for Certificates of Achievements
Selection is required at the point of practicum/externships placements for the Medical Assisting Certificate (MDA.CT).
The Medical Assisting program has a 100% graduate satisfaction rating for the past
five reporting years. The CMA(AAMA) exam passage rate for 2022 graduates is 100%.
Students must attend a Medical Assisting Information Session and pass a mandatory
criminal background check prior to registration into all MDA courses (except MDA 1350
and MDA 1103).

Prepare to Transfer – Even if You Are Not Planning to Today!
By planning early and working with an OCC Counselor throughout your OCC experience you will be able to maximize your OCC applicable credits
upon transfer. If you are pursuing an associate in applied science you may be able
to satisfy the Michigan Transfer Agreement by taking as few as four additional courses, saving you time, money and aggravation!
Regardless of your program of study, OCC has many Transfer Credit Agreements with colleges and universities to assist with navigating your way to a bachelor’s
