Oakland Community College launches evening and weekend nursing programonly community college to offer one in Southeast Michigan

Oakland Community College has expanded its nursing program to include evening classes and weekend clinicals, giving working students more flexibility to earn an associate degree. OCC is the only community college in Southeast Michigan to offer an evening nursing program.

“It can be hard for someone to leave a job to attend school full-time and take classes on a traditional day-time schedule,” said Dr. Tanya McFadden, Executive Director of Health Professions/Dean of Nursing. “That’s why we expanded our program to offer evening classes and weekend clinicals, allowing students to balance work, family and earning a degree.”

The current evening nursing cohort meets Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. on OCC’s Highland Lakes (Waterford) campus. McClaren-Oakland hospital partners with OCC to provide clinicals on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

“We had great interest in this first evening and weekend program, with more than 20 students currently in the Fall 2025 cohort,” said Zenet L. Patten, Associate Dean, Nursing and Health Professions. “Another cohort will begin in August 2026 and we expect it will fill to capacity.”

OCC offers one of Michigan’s largest and most affordable nursing programs respected for high licensure exam pass rates and strong student satisfaction. Nursing classes are currently held at OCC’s Highland Lakes (Waterford) and Southfield campuses. In 2027, the College’s health sciences programs will move to the new state-of-the-art Health Sciences building on the College’s Orchard Ridge (Farmington Hills) Campus.

OCC's associate degree Nursing program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). For details and to apply to the program, visit OCC Nursing
