Academic Testing Center

The Academic Testing Centers strive to deliver quality-testing services to OCC's current and prospective students. The Academic Testing Centers make every effort to maintain the security and credibility of all exams by promoting a secure and stress-free testing environment.   

The Academic Testing Centers proctor the ALEKS Placement exam, the Biology Proficiency exam as well as some online, extended time and make-up exams initiated by instructor request.

Information for Students

  • Schedule an appointment to take exams with the Orchard Ridge or Auburn Hills Campus Testing Center.  Your instructor must send the exam to the Testing Center prior to the time you make your appointment. 
  • Walk-ins cannot be accommodated. 
  • You will need to notify the Testing Center through your OCC email or by phone (OR - 248.522.3489 | AH - 248.232.4435)  if you will be arriving late or need to reschedule your appointment. Not all rescheduled exams can be accommodated. 
  • OCC Instructors will provide specific testing requirements including the time frame in which the exam must be taken. See the bottom of this page for hours of operation. 
  • No test will be given after the test due date specified without written authorization from the instructor.
  • All tests must conclude 15 minutes before the Testing Centers’ designated closing time. It is your responsibility to schedule tests with enough time to finish before closing. 

What to Bring to Your Appointment

  • A valid photo ID is required for all testing (Driver's License, School ID, Government Issued ID with photo). You cannot present a photo on a mobile device of valid ID. For special situations,  call the Testing Center before arrival.
  • You will need to bring user names and passwords necessary for any online testing program that needs to be accessed for the exam.
  • Cell phones, other electronic devices (i.e. smart watches), calculators and personal items are not permitted in the testing rooms unless designated by the instructor or assigned as a disability accommodation by ACCESS (Disability Support Services).    
  • No food or beverages are allowed into the Testing Centers unless authorized as an accommodation through the ACCESS Office.  
  • Ask your instructor about what is required for your test. Pens, pencils, and scrap paper or dry erase boards may be provided by the Testing Centers. Calculators and headphones are limited and provided on an as-needed basis. Scantron forms are the responsibility of the student. 

Make-Up Exams

You are required to have approval from the instructor before scheduling an appointment for a makeup test.  Instructors must contact a Testing Center to give confirmation. You must email a Testing Center using your OCC email address to schedule an appointment. Contact information for the Testing Centers is listed at the end of this webpage.  

Instructor Steps

Students who need accommodations for testing are encouraged to contact our ACCESS Office. The ACCESS team will work with students on personalized arrangements that will meet their unique needs. See the Student Rights & Responsibilities tab on the ACCESS page for additional information.

Trained testing professionals administer all tests and adhere to the National College Testing Association (NCTA) Professional Standards and Guidelines. The Centers adhere to the privacy restrictions set forth in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
