Personal Enrichment  

OCC is offering three new personal enrichment programs this Fall. For more information and to register, visit Personal Enrichment 

Eight-week beginners’ course designed for anyone who wants to learn how to turn yarn into beautiful handmade items.   

Six-week class teaches fundamentals of sewing, including safely operating a sewing machine, using essential sewing tools and completing a sewing project. Sewing machines are provided. 

Join Certified Bob Ross Instructor Ted Simpson for a fun, laid-back evening to learn to paint a classic Ross style painting using his famous wet-on-wet oil technique. In just a few hours, attendees will start with a blank canvas and finish with a personal masterpiece. 

Community Cooking Classes 

Ramp up your cooking skills with OCC experts in the new Culinary Studies Institute kitchen at Royal Oak Campus. For more information and to register, visit Cooking Classes.   

Learn how to make three styles of rolled sushi and gain tips for sushi presentation. 

Young culinarians will learn to make pico de gallo, taco slaw, guacamole, pickled onions, and grilled elotes (Mexican street corn). The class will wrap up class with a taco party. 

Celebrate the flavors of Mexico in this dynamic culinary and mixology experience. Participants will learn to prepare authentic street tacos and discover the three distinctive tequila styles.  

Master the art of pasta and sauces from scratch in this two-part, hands-on class. Participants will learn to make a variety of pasta shapes and classic sauces and how to stuff and shape filled pastas.  

Participants will learn to prepare rich, hearty meals using affordable cuts of meat and poultry paired with winter vegetables.  

This comprehensive class will teach participants the art of cooking every part of the chicken.  Participants will also learn how to use dry rubs and marinades, and the best sides to accompany chicken dishes. 

Learn to make treats that taste as good as they look and celebrate the season at this hands-on  creative class.  

In this hands-on class, participants will work in small teams to create delicious holiday cookies using chef-inspired recipes in our state-of-the-art kitchen.  

Personal Safety-CPL 

Popular Concealed Pistol License (CPL) classes taught by Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement (MCOLES) certified police officers at OCC’s Auburn Hills Campus. Students must be age 21 and up. For more information and to register, visit Concealed Pistol License.   

  • CPL |Sat, Sept. 20, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Full day course takes students from the beginning of safe gun handling through actual range fire. No prior training or experience required. 

Level 1 course goes beyond basic CPL training, focusing on areas such as point and positional shooting; cover and concealment; strong and off-hand shooting; target analysis; pistol malfunction clearing and tactical reloading.     

Level 2 course, taught by the Oakland Police Academy's Firearms Staff, will enhance the participants decision-making skills through force-on-force decision making scenarios to boost necessary skills when confronted with a possible life-threatening situation while under stress.
